Strategic environmental assessment study in the areas of agriculture, livestock and fisheries sector in Mali

The project carries out three Strategic Environmental Evaluations in Mali, in the sectors of rural development. Noticeable the weight of agriculture in the national GDP, around 35% of the total wealth produced in the country. The aim of the evaluation is both to train the staffs of Ministry and Environmental and Development agencies – and to identify major impacts of current agriculture development plans on the environment. The preservation of environmental assets and natural capital in a poor country such as Mali is of first importance  given the links between development and the quality of environment. Against this background the report underline the importance to promote environmental preservation through actions of technical assistance, investments in rural areas and information of stakeholders
